Thank you to all that took the Somerset County Cultural Plan surveys! Feedback collected through the cultural plan surveys plays an essential role in development of the goals, objectives, and strategies identified in the plan. Follow the links below to explore results from the Somerset County Cultural Plan surveys:
The Wesserunsett Arts Council (WesArts) has partnered with Main Street Skowhegan (MSS) to form the Somerset Cultural Planning Committee (SCPC) and raise awareness of the varied cultural activities in our region to bring our community together and forge a stronger cultural profile.
Beginning in July 2016 and continuing through June 2017, SCPC will research existing community plans, shape overall strategies, conduct county-wide interviews and focus groups, focus cultural priorities pulled from survey data, review and then approve future steps to create the Somerset Cultural Plan. Upon successful completion, the arts community will have earned a place at the table alongside municipal officials, business leaders and cultural innovators and WesArts will have a foundation on which to implement the Somerset Cultural Plan.
Wesserunsett Arts Council
The Wesserunsett Arts Council (WAC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to fostering the arts for all ages in the greater Skowhegan area, and beyond.
Music, theatre, local films, art walks, poetry nights, open studios, seminars and snow sculpting are just a few of the events that have been sponsored by WAC since 2008.
Our latest and certainly most ambitious project to date is the creation of a community radio station – WXNZ-LP 98.1 FM. With a studio space at the old county jailhouse, generously donated by Maine Grains, the station has come to be known as “HooSkow Radio”. The programming is eclectic and inclusive for all ages.
